VIRTUAL REALITY PIONEER VINCENT JOHN VINCENT PERFORMS AND SPEAKS IN WATERLOO SATIR96 (3rd Biennial Avanta conference) -THE POWER TO CREATE CHANGE is taking place in Waterloo, Ontario. The conference focuses on a variety of topics from the creative possibilities with computers to helping people confront racism to the connection between inner and outer space. On opening night Wednesday, August 7, Vincent John Vincent will be performing in Virtual Reality. Together with the band 20th Century Kid, VJV will take the audience on an audio-visual adventure through time and space in a performance entitled "Visions from the Virtual Dawn". This awe inspiring, cutting edge event takes place @ Humanities Theatre, University of Waterloo 8:00 pm Aug.7 . VJV will also discuss the concept of Virtual Reality and the dynamic of man/machine interfacing and its endless possibilities. Toronto's Vincent John Vincent is world renowned as the first and foremost Virtual Reality Performer. He has performed around the world to rave reviews of both the dynamic, revolutionary use of technology, and the artistic integration. During the performance the audience sees VJV and 20th C.Kid on the stage combining "cyber" and traditional instruments. VJV steps in front of a video camera and monitor setup, he sees his live image placed inside of the interactive, real time computer animation and video worlds of the Mandala VR System (a system that he co-created). The audience sees the same thing on large screens above the stage. Without touching anything in the real world, VJV can interact and play with the objects that surround his video image. This is because the system is able to track his movements in real time, at all times, and recognizes what he is doing to the animation. This could be as simple as picking up an animated 3-D ball, and rolling it around his body; or as complex as jamming lead riffs on an animated electric guitar; or a drum solo on a virtual drum kit. Vincent is a dancer, juggler, actor, and musician who combines these talents in the virtual world. He takes the concept of performance and shows us a future where anything is possible. Vincent embraces multimedia, recreating his dreamscapes into computer realities and then stepping into them with his whole body. Its an interactive music video playground thats breathtaking to watch! Vincent is also the co-founder of the Vivid Group and has been one of the world leaders in the Virtual Reality field for over a decade.
